About ATESK

An American Teaching English in South Korea

If you're considering a Korean hagwon teaching job, maybe you'll find this American's story interesting.

A hagwon is a private language academy. Korea has thousands of them. Unlike public schools, they don't require an education degree or a teaching certificate. If English is your native language, and you have a bachelor's degree in any field, you can be an ESL / EFL teacher in Korea. (See requirements.)

Here you can follow a year in Gangneung, on Korea's east coast: teaching, making lifelong friends, exploring Korea, absorbing Korean history and culture.

Check out the journal and photo album to see what it was like. Then read the Teaching and Culture sections to learn how you can have your own successful adventure in the Land of the Morning Calm.
